DIRECT CREMATION

Direct cremation does not involve any sort of formal funeral service. After identification of the remains and a legally required waiting period of twenty-four hours, the body is taken to the crematorium. Each body is cremated separately and the cremated remains are returned to the family.

CREMATION WITH MEMORIAL SERVICE

Many families choose to have a memorial service after the remains are cremated in order to honor and remember the deceased. A memorial service can be a time for family and friends to come together to deal with the loss of a loved one and share their grief. A memorial service, like a funeral, is a service of remembrance, however, the body of the deceased is not present. The memorial service can be held at a place of worship, the funeral home or any other appropriate location.

CREMATION WITH FUNERAL SERVICE

Choosing cremation does not limit your choices with respect to services prior to the cremation. The only difference between a funeral followed by burial and one followed by cremation is that the body is taken to the crematorium after the service instead of a cemetery. We offer a wide range of hardwood caskets specifically designed for cremation. A rental casket with a self-contained removable interior is also available for use. Following the funeral services, the body is removed from the rental casket in the self-contained interior and transported to the crematorium. The interior of the casket is then replaced for future use.

WHAT CAN BE DONE WITH THE CREMATED REMAINS?

After cremation, there are decisions to be made about what to do with the cremated remains. We offer a wide selection of urns for sale, a complete list of which is available at the funeral home. There are a great variety of urns available today from traditional vase-shaped urns to cast sculptures and sun dials that hold cremated remains. We can also place the cremated remains in a container that you have provided.

There are other options as well. The cremated remains can be buried in a cemetery or placed in a mausoleum. Some cemeteries have special gardens where the cremated remains can be scattered. Many families who select these options choose to have a service at that time.

You may also choose to scatter or bury the cremated remains on your own property or on another person's property provided that you have obtained permission first and that there are no prohibitions against doing so. If you wish to scatter cremated remains on public property, you will need to contact the local municipal government to determine if it is legal to do so.
